Our Story

Nurserve has been in operation since 1991,

servicing the needs of our patients and their families. Having been established for such a long time, we know the industry well, and are able to pass on our expertise to our patients. We originally began as a wound care practice, then realised the need for patients also requiring help at home.

We are therefore now a fully fledged nursing Agency providing nursing care within people’s homes as well as the wound care.

  • Cancer care

  • Home rehabilitation
  • Wound care

  • Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
  • We are Medical Aid compliant
1

Caregiver:

These ladies have done a course within a Nursing home setting and have written an exam qualifying them as a caregiver. They are not registered with the South African Nursing Council, but with the Department of Health. Medical aids do not pay for this care.
2

Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary (ENA):

These ladies have done a year’s course within a hospital setting. They have written an exam to receive a diploma and are registered with the South African Nursing Council. Most Medical aids will pay for this level of care, depending on the condition of the patient, and a doctor’s referral note together with the ICD 10 code (a diagnostic code).
3

Enrolled nurse (EN):

These ladies have done a minimum of 2 years training within a hospital setting. They have written an exam and have a diploma. Most medical aids will pay for this care depending on the condition of the patient and a doctor’s motivation letter together with the ICD 10 code (diagnostic code). Please note that very few medical aids pay for frail care, although there are some that do. It would be advisable that you check with your medical aid first.

About Nurseve

Nurserve is a Nursing Agency as well as wound care provider, providing holistic care to our patients within their home environment for those requiring care, or in our clinic for those needing wound care.

We regard the patient as a whole – both physical and spiritual being. The purpose of our agency is to ensure high quality care to our patients by incorporating medical technology as well as home resources.

We promote education and support of the patient and family. We form part of a team and work in close liaison with other healthcare providers, being the preferred provider by several medical aids. We have a close relationship with most doctors liaising with them on the patient’s behalf.

Our caring, friendly as well as professional staff create a conducive atmosphere for the promotion of the well – being of our patients. Our nurses are informed and versed in the condition of the patient to enable them to care for the needs of each individual patient. Our wound care service is of the highest standard being run by professional nurses being trained within advanced wound care. We constantly improve our knowledge regarding wound care by updating ourselves within the industry.

We believe that:

  • Each patient has the right to choose where and by whom they would like to receive their care.
  • Caring, meeting the needs, and the comfort of the patient should be the focus of our nursing care.
  • The patient and family should be empowered with knowledge to allow for a well informed decision.
  • We should support the patient, family and community and act as a form of reference wherever necessary   .
  • Each person should be treated as an individual person with dignity and respect, regardless of sex, colour, nationality or religious conviction.
  • In order to promote holistic care, we liaise with and form part of the overall team of healthcare providers.
  • Continuous updating of knowledge promotes and ensures effectiveness, efficacy and efficiency of nursing care.
  • Making use of advanced technology promotes health.

Our vision

We allow every patient the dignity of being cared for within the environment of their choice, receiving quality care by well trained staff, as well as providing the optimum level of professional wound care.

Testimonials

We’ve worked with several doctors for a number of years and continue to be referred by many of them, based on the positive feedback of our patients.

Alyson LuckPatient

I have been going to Sr Siegie and Sr Rita for almost 2 months. I was attached by 2 dogs. I have severe wounds on my arm and back. The treatment I received was really wonderful. Both ladies are so caring and gentle. Always there to help with anything. I would recommend Nurserve to anybody. Thank you for the great service and caring so much for your patients.

Captain Wenzel ShanmogunPatient

I am a paraplegic due to a gunshot injury. In January 2015 I underwent surgery for a bed sore, the result which left me with a 20cm x 10cm open wound to my buttock so deep that the bone was made visible. The most terrifying part was after the surgical procedure, I overheard a senior nurse tell a student nurse that “patients with this type of injury do not survive”. My subsequent consult with Sister Siegie, her competence, skill, reassurance and thoroughness contributed to my healing process. Sister Siegie‘s approach was holistic that is, emotionally, psychologically and medically. While life may be hard, I am forever grateful for the fantastic, excellent care, kindness and encouragement. Thank you for doing everything you do, caring so much for your patients and being the best. I am filled with immense gratitude to you. Your reassurance and prompt medical attention are the tools that God used to restore me back to health. Sister Siegie, you’ve made such a difference in my life and I will be forever grateful to you.

Mr Ramesh MaharajPatient

I was discharged from hospital and left to care for my wound by myself. I was extremely concerned at the time and communicated my feelings to the surgeon. He arranged for Sr Siegie Fitzjohn to engage with me in hospital prior to my discharge. She was comforting and put mu mind at ease with compassion and accommodating nature. On my first visit to the clinic I found her to be passionate in her duties. My subsequent visits were pleasant and the wound has healed through her dedication and passion. I am completely satisfied with my treatment and have no hesitation recommending my friends and family to her with similar problems.

Captain William MoorePatients Son

Following my father’s stroke in December 2016 which left him hemiplegic and unable to communicate, I engaged Nurserve to care for him. Nurserve provided at -home nursing service on a 24/7 basis for two years until my father’s passing. Our two nurses, Phumi and Sam were wonderful and we could not have managed through this exceptionally difficult time without them. My heartfelt thank you to them both as well as Nurserve for the support they gave my family.
